Brett L. McKague


A licensed lawyer in California since 1992, Brett made the decision in 2019 to become a credentialed mediator. He then underwent basic and advanced mediation course training at the University of Nevada, Reno. He continues to regularly participate in specialized mediation education courses and continuing legal education training in his areas of focus. 

Aside from conducting private mediations, he is a count approved mediator for the Second Judicial District Court, State of Nevada, County of Washoe where he continues to mediate cases on a regular basis.

Brett has extensive trial, mediation, and arbitration experience in venues including state and federal court as well as in private alternative dispute resolution proceedings.  His clients have included a diverse group ranging from individuals to Fortune 500 Companies. 

He was a founding partner of two different law firms McKague and Tong, and McKague Rosasco, LLP and has more than thirty years of experience in the areas of construction, real estate, business, major personal injury and wrongful death litigation.  

As a respected lawyer, Brett has handled a number of high-profile cases and has been quoted in publications including the Wall Street Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, and USA Today. He has also served as an invited speaker on topics relating to personal injury and business litigation. Notably, he successfully argued the case of McQuirk v. Donnelly, an important and groundbreaking reported decision from the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th District.  In addition, he was appointed, and served, on the Sacramento County Board of Building Appeals.
Brett is a Northern California native who graduated with the highest honors from California State University, Chico.  He obtained his law degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. 
Away from the office, he enjoys playing guitar in two bands, fly fishing, coaching youth basketball and going on road trips with his family.
